Ray was born and raised in Lowell, MA. Recognized as a patriot; he enlisted in the Army in 1954 at 16 and served until 1958.
He did his basic training in Fort Dix, NJ and was trained in communications at Fort Bragg, NC. He spent his career in Germany, serving as a communications specialist with the 82nd Airborne Division. His proudest military moment was his graduation from jump school. Upon leaving the military, Ray joined US Airways as a manager with customer service and retired after thirty years. Ray and his best friend, Dave Palmer, delivered ambulances all over the United States – what stories they could tell.
Always there, Ray volunteered at UF Hospital in Leesburg, and is known for his fantastic storytelling – he never met a stranger. Ray was an avid motorcyclist. He loved his rides with the Wild Hogs, wearing his do-rag and breezing through the streets! Raymond was a man of many talents, but his greatest talent was his ability to love. His love was not just a feeling, but a force. A force that brought joy, comfort and strength – especially for his friends and family.
Ray was preceded in death by his mother, Eva Bernier, son Mark Godin, brother Richard and sister Gladys. Also, the mother of his children, Marlene Godin.
Loved ones include son Vince Godin and wife Timi of North Carolina, grandchildren Jake Newcott, Beth and Douglas Christiano and four great grandchildren.
He is deeply loved and greatly missed by his wife Barbara, and children, Matthew of Kansas, Erin of Georgia, and KC and wife Mary of Kansas, granddaughter, Ryan and sister Elaine Dupois.
Ray will always be with us, “what we have once enjoyed deeply – we can never lose” – rest in peace.
The family of Ray invites you to join them in Prayer with a meal to follow on Saturday, September 7 at 7:00 p.m. at Page Theus Funeral Home.
