Driver pronounced dead at Leesburg hospital after Florida Turnpike crash

A woman was pronounced dead at UF Health-Leesburg Hospital after a crash on the Florida Turnpike in Lake County.

The 66-year-old Crystal River woman was driving a 2021 Buick Enclave at about 11 p.m. Saturday northbound on the Florida Turnpike near Mile Marker 283 when she failed to negotiate a slight curve, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

The woman’s vehicle struck a concrete barrier and then collided with another concrete barrier on the shoulder. Her vehicle traveled into the path of a 2015 Toyota RAV4 that was also traveling northbound on the Florida Turnpike. The RAV4 struck the Buick Enclave.

The Crystal River woman was transported by ambulance to the hospital in Leesburg where she was pronounced dead.

The driver of the RAV4, an 82-year-old Fruitland Park man, was not injured.
