An 85-year-old Leesburg bicyclist died Sunday afternoon after he was struck from behind by an automobile.
The bicyclist was traveling at 3:39 p.m northbound on Palm Tree Trail north of Beach Park Road when a 76-year-old Leesburg woman driving a 2023 Hyundai Kona failed to notice him, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol. The front of her vehicle struck the rear of the bicycle.
He was transported by ambulance to AdventHealth Waterman Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The woman who had been driving the automobile remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
The crash remains under investigation.
