Officers responded to a battery at an undisclosed Leesburg residence around 4:24 p.m. Monday, July 1, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department. The complainant advised that 30-year-old Brennan Levi Porter struck the victim and left on a bicycle.

Upon arrival, an officer spoke with the complainant who stated that Porter became irate and struck the victim on the back of the head. Porter and the victim were homeless, and she allowed them to stay inside her shed at the residence. The complainant did not wish to provide a sworn statement of the incident, the report said.

While officers were speaking to the complainant, Porter returned to the scene and began to cause a disturbance. Officers tried to de-escalate Porter, but he continued to scream at them and the victim. They then decided to detain him instead due to the complainant’s statement, the report said.

Porter pulled away from the officers and began to tense the muscles in his arm. He was taken to the ground and placed into custody. While on the ground, he continued to resist officers, ultimately being carried away and placed in the back of a patrol vehicle, the report said.

The victim advised that she and Porter had gotten into an argument. He struck her on the back of the head where there was a visible abrasion and swelling. Additionally, the two had been in a romantic relationship for about three years and lived together as a family in the past, making the incident domestic in nature. She did not wish to provide a sworn written statement, the report said.

Porter was read his rights and agreed to speak with the officers. He advised that he and the victim had gotten into an argument, and he pushed the victim out of his way so he could leave the residence. He did so with intent, the report said.

Porter was subsequently arrested on charges of simple battery (domestic) and resisting officer (obstructing without violence). He was transported to Lake County Jail with bond set at $2,000.
