A Eustis man was trespassed from Big Dog Saloon after being pepper sprayed by the DJ for being belligerent in his face.
A deputy responded to Big Dog Saloon, located at 4060 County Road 19A, regarding a verbal altercation around 1:57 a.m. Friday, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
Upon arrival, the deputy met with 59-year-old Ray Lopez. He was highly intoxicated and stated that the DJ pepper sprayed him in the face. His friend had paid the DJ for him to be able to sing a karaoke song, but he had not been able to and got upset, the report said.
Lopez went to confront the DJ and ask him why he had not been able to sing yet. That was when the DJ pepper sprayed him in the face and kicked him to the ground. He refused to be checked by EMS, the report said.
The deputy then interviewed a witness. He stated that he saw Lopez walk up to the DJ booth and aggressively get in his face, asking about his turn to sing. He heard the DJ tell him to back off or he would pepper spray him, the report said.
The witness further advised that the DJ said he felt threatened and was going to pepper spray Lopez if he did not back away. Lopez was continuously belligerent in the DJ’s face, causing him to pepper spray him, the report said.
The manager of Big Dog Saloon was spoken to last. She advised that she did not see anything but smelled the fumes from the pepper spray. The surveillance cameras were not activated. She still asked Lopez to leave the property, and he refused, the report said.
Because Lopez was being loud and belligerent, the manager wanted him trespassed from the saloon. His refusal to leave and his belligerence led to him being arrested without incident, the report said.
The New York native was charged with trespassing of an occupied structure/conveyance and disorderly intoxication. He was transported to Lake County Jail with bond set at $1,500.
