Joseph Bernard Scannell

It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of my younger brother Joseph Scannell. He staged a courageous battle against kidney disease but early evening on Monday May 13, the Lord took him to heaven. Those of you who knew him knew that he was a very hard worker. He created a very successful business installing and repairing Computer Numerical Control (CNC) systems and machines.

He first started working in the CNC industry in 1975 while employed by the Electric Boat division of General Dynamics. In 1989 he left Electric Boat to work for Mazak as a field service technician for their CNC product line. They relocated him to Pennsylvania at one point to be closer to the bulk of Mazak’s customer base. In 1998 he took a leap of faith and started his own business and Scannell’s CNC Repair, Inc. was born. Because of his extensive knowledge in CNC primarily with Mazak, they hired him as a contractor. At this point, he hired his son, Jonathan to expand the business.

He also was a great husband to Roberta and they found a love for motorcycle riding after moving to Florida in 2004 and in 2016 bought their first Harley Davidson. In their riding they were able to form some great friendships and rode whenever they could. A favorite for them was going to Motorcycle Rallies in Daytona Beach, Florida. Sadly, he had to give up his motorcycle riding due to illness.

He was also an inspiration to his two sons Jason and Jonathan. He was greatly loved by his siblings Jerry, Joyce, Debbie, and Michael as well as his extended family David, Jeff, Peter, and the late Patty. He will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him.
