Dorothy Sherwood Mortensen (Maiden Name: Dorothy Jean Sherwood) or Dottie, as she preferred to be called, at 94 years of age went to be with her Lord Jesus on May 8th, 2024. The Lord mercifully received her into His heaven while she slept.

Her family and friends miss her dearly but rejoice in her heavenly reunion with her husband of 57 years, John Mortensen, who had gone to be with the Lord in 2014. Our hearts also warm at the thought of her new heavenly body being able to walk and run unhindered for the first time ever. She has finally arrived home indeed.

She lived a life seeking to serve God through serving and helping those around her in any way that she could. It was her daily prayer to be a purposeful vessel for her Savior. She spent decades working with John, and on her own, in various church ministries, but no ministry was more precious to her than the mission field she saw in front of her every day.

She always sought to make connections with those around her; to be able to get to know every stranger she would meet. She genuinely loved and took an interest in people and would always make an effort to know them if for no other reason than so that she could know how to pray for them. She lived this way until the end. This is her legacy.

She is survived by her daughter, Cynthia; grandson, Kevin Flinn (Jessica) and sister, Carol Silvernail.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John and parents, Elbert Sherwood and Gladys Crump.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 16, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. at Page-Theus Funeral Home, Leesburg, FL with a visitation to be held from 2:00 p.m. until the hour of the service.
