Police responded to an undisclosed address Thursday afternoon regarding a theft that occurred the day before, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department.

The officer met with the victim, a U-Haul employee at the address, who advised her wallet was stolen from the employee breakroom on Dec. 6. She stated she has security footage showing a customer, later identified as 53-year-old Christina Dawn Moore, entering the breakroom where her backpack and wallet were located, the report said.

The victim was assisting Moore in trying to rent a U-Haul vehicle on the day of the theft. Although she named herself on the online rental application as “Christina Jackson,” the officer was able to identify her using an uploaded photo of her license. She was ultimately unable to rent due to prior bad rental history, the report said.

Moore proceeded to the back of the U-Haul store where she stated she was waiting for her ride. She sat in the chairs next to the employee breakroom in the meantime. The victim noticed a short time later that Moore had left the premises at an unknown time, the report said.

The victim got an alert at 10:15 a.m. that a purchase attempt with her card was made at Fuego Smoke & Vape, located at 10300 U.S. Highway 441 in Leesburg, for $194.87. She called the shop to follow up on the charge. An employee confirmed a woman tried to use a credit card, which was declined, for about $190. This woman’s description matched Moore’s, the report said.

The victim then contacted Moore using a phone number she listed on her rental application. She returned to the business and gave back the wallet, the report said.

The officer later went to Fuego and spoke with the employee who was working at the time of the incident. He assisted Moore, who tried to purchase a “skunk bag, tobacco pipe and cigarette tubes.” The card declined, but she tried to use several others that also declined. The total of attempted purchases was around $190, the report said.

Security camera footage from the U-Haul rental service and from the smoke shop were given to the officer. Moore was seen walking into the breakroom around 9:35 a.m. in the U-Haul footage. She was seen trying to purchase several items in the smoke shop footage, the report said.

Moore was later arrested at 34140 Pershing Avenue in Leesburg. The Illinois native was charged with petit theft (two or more prior convictions), fraud (illegal use of credit card less than $300) and ID theft (use of personal information). She was transported to the Lake County Jail with bond set at $6,000.

Moore was arrested on theft and drug charges last year after shoplifting at a Home Depot.
