Police responded to the Candlelight Motel, located at 1306 S 14th Street, regarding an attempted stabbing at 10:26 a.m. Tuesday, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department.

The victim in that case, identified as 29-year-old Devonte Amar Williams, was gathering his belongings near Room 6 under the overhang during the investigation. He placed his bags on the ground to pack them when the officer noticed a long pipe wrapped in electrical tape. As one of the residents walked by, she also pointed to the item and advised that Williams dropped the “pipe,” the report said.

The officer picked up the pipe and examined it. It appeared to be slightly thicker than a pen but was wrapped in black electrical tape. The pipe contained burnt copper Brillo inside the end. Due to his training and experience, the officer suspected it to drug paraphernalia and detained Williams pending further investigation, the report said.

The officer then swabbed the inside of the pipe and field tested its contents for various narcotics. It came back positive for fentanyl. The officer also determined that Williams was on felony probation for cocaine possession, the report said.

The report noted that officers were in the area where the pipe was found throughout the investigation. The pipe was only seen when Williams picked up his belongings. Another officer watched surveillance footage and advised the pipe was not visible when Williams put his belongings on the ground but was only seen after they were moved, the report said.

Williams was subsequently arrested and charged with possession or use of drug paraphernalia. He was also charged for violating his probation, which included possession of cocaine, methamphetamine and other controlled substances. He was transported to the Lake County Jail with bond set at $1,000.

He was also arrested for his involvement in a drug bust at the Rodeway Inn in October 2022.
