Driver of minivan with faulty brakes ticketed in crash

A driver was ticketed after a three-vehicle crash tied up traffic on U.S. Hwy. 27 at the entrance to The Plantation in Leesburg.

A 66-year-old man from Winter Haven at 10:51 a.m. was at the wheel of a green 2007 Chevrolet minivan which was southbound on U.S. Hwy. 27 approaching Plantation Boulevard when the vehicle’s brakes failed, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

The minivan rear-ended a 2002 Toyota pickup operated by the Duct Man service company. The Toyota pickup was driven by an 18-year-old woman from Deland. The pickup was forced into the back of an Amazon Prime semi, driven by a 60-year-old man from Miami.

There were no injuries.

The Winter Haven man driving the minivan was ticketed for faulty equipment.
