A Leesburg teenager was arrested for allegedly battering a law enforcement officer after spitting in his face while he attempted to detain her.

Police responded to a possible armed and dangerous person, later identified as 19-year-old Danyella Leah Jones, at a residence in Wildwood at 8:58 a.m. Friday, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.
A deputy arrived on scene to see a Wildwood Police Department sergeant trying to escort Jones from the property. As he did so, Jones became irate and resisted his efforts. She began pulling away from the sergeant while yelling and screaming, the report said.
The sergeant then attempted to place Jones in hand restraints resulting in her being taken to the ground. More Wildwood PD officers helped the sergeant successfully restrain Jones and escort her from the property to a patrol vehicle, the report said.
In doing so, Jones positioned her face towards the sergeant and spit onto the left side of his face, left ear and hair, the report said.
Jones was subsequently charged with resisting an officer with violence and battery on a law enforcement officer. She was transported to the Sumter County Jail with bond set at $10,000.
