On Friday, September 22, 2023, Ellen Roseina Galvin George, devoted wife, loving mother, and extraordinary grandmother, passed away in Leesburg, FL after a brief illness. She was 91 years old. Ellen was born in Sarasota, FL on July 19, 1932 to Clarence Edward Galvin, Sr. and Josephine Davis Galvin. She graduated from Englewood High School and attended nursing school. She was a past member of Bushnell Presbyterian Church and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.
In 1955, Ellen married Donald Atkinson George. They moved to Bushnell, Fl in 1957. Ellen was a homemaker and worked at the local drugstore. She also worked as a secretary. For many years, Ellen enjoyed gardening, sewing, hosting large family gatherings, and serving others in the community. She will be remembered for her generosity, hard-working determination, and desire to help others in need.
Ellen is survived by her husband of 68 years, Donald Atkinson George, and daughters Deborah Taylor (Michael) and Diana Kuharske (Jeffrey). Her cherished grandchildren are Kenneth Taylor (Nicole), Katherine Taylor Phelps (Matthew), Keeley Taylor Collins (Justin), Danielle Kuharske Avera (Sean), and Ethan Kuharske. Her beloved great-grandchildren are Jackson Taylor, Caroline Taylor, Elise Phelps, Evan Phelps, and Ainsley Avera. Ellen will also be deeply missed by many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by two brothers, Dale Galvin and Jerry Galvin (Ruby).
Ellen is preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Clarence Edward “Buddy” Galvin and John Frances “Johnny” Galvin.
A funeral service for Ellen will be held on Thursday, September 28 at Purcell Chapel in Bushnell, FL. The family will receive visitors at 12:00 noon followed by the service at 1:00pm. Ellen will be interned at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Morristown, FL.
The family thanks the emergency staff, ICU staff, and hospital staff of UF Health in Leesburg, FL for their skill, dedication, and compassion.
Flowers will be accepted, or donations may be made in Ellen’s memory to the American Heart Association.
