A Leesburg man was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence after reportedly speeding 24 mph over the posted limit.
Police observed the driver of a red Chevrolet, later identified as 63-year-old George Henry Wilder, speeding eastbound on US Highway 441 at 9:46 p.m. Monday, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department. He was tracked as going 69 mph in a 45-mph zone.
The officer proceeded to initiate a traffic stop in the area of U.S. Hwy. 441 and College Drive, the report said. Upon making contact with Wilder, the officer noticed his eyes were bloodshot and watery. He requested that Wilder step out of the vehicle to perform field sobriety exercises due to these observations.
Wilder initially declined but then agreed to step out of the vehicle, the report said. Due to his performance during the exercises, the officer concluded that he was driving under the influence. This was later confirmed by breath tests with results of 0.193g/210L and 0.196g/210L of breath.
Wilder was arrested and charged with DUI. He was transported to the Lake County Jail and released after posting $1,000 bond.
