Gail K. Hampy of Daytona Beach Shores, formerly of Leesburg, passed away on Friday, September 15, 2023. She was 87. Gail moved to Miami, Florida with her parents and two sisters, Bettye Sue Blackmon and Carolyn June Gray as a young child. The family relocated to Leesburg, and she graduated from Leesburg High School, class of 1954. She went to work for Golden Gem Growers in Umatilla, working there for 33 years before retiring as a Purchasing Assistant.
Gail married Stanley William Carpenter and they were married for 17 years. Stanley has since passed away. In 1974, she married Arthur L. Hampy and they enjoyed 41 years of marriage. Gail was Baptist. The Elks Lodge in Eustis was a big part of she and Art’s social life. Gail also loved to go canoeing and would go often with a group of friends. Gail and Art enjoyed RV camping with good friends. After she retired, she and Art sold their home and did a lot of traveling in their RV.
She was preceded in death by her husband Arthur L. Hampy, November 2015, her daughter, Cynthia “Cindy” Carpenter Grady, May 2012, her son, Kenneth William Carpenter, May 2020, and her grandson, Ryan Thomas Clark, April 2021. Gail is remembered and will be dearly missed by her daughter, Cathy L. (Randall) Clark of Ponce Inlet, FL; daughter-in-law, Julie Carpenter of Eustis; grandchildren, Nicholas (Hattie) Clark of Huntsville, Alabama, Kevin (Samantha) Clark of Atlantic Beach, FL, Kerry Carpenter of Detroit, MI, Haley Carpenter of Eustis, Amanda (Mike) McGee of Sanford, FL, Matthew (Tillie) Grady of Altamonte Springs, FL, and Jeffrey (Brittany) Grady of Eustis; and 10 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by step-children, Darryl Hampy of Ocala, FL, Brian Hampy of Eustis, FL, Karen Cramer of Ocala, Robin Hampy Pearce of Eustis and Dawn Hardin of Altoona, along with grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Family and friends are invited to gather on Thursday, September 21 from 12:00 noon until 1:00 PM with a Funeral Ceremony starting at 1:00 PM in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow at Lakeside Memory Gardens, Eustis.
