A Leesburg man is in the Lake County Jail after he admitted to barging into the wrong house and hitting the occupant.

Lawrence John Gudmestad, 59, was arrested Tuesday at the Lee Motel, 201 S. 14th St. He was charged with burglary and battery in connection with the June incident, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office  arrest report.

The victim reported that Gudmestad started banging on the door of his residence on the day of the incident. The victim slightly opened the door to see who it was when Gudmestad pushed it open and stepped inside the home. Gudmestad then pushed the victim back inside his residence after he told him to leave multiple times. The victim pushed him back outside, and they began rolling on the ground fighting, the report said.

When law enforcement found out Gudmestad was staying at the motel, they contacted him and advised him of the charges. He said he knew he messed up and had gone into the wrong house and hit the man, according to the report.

The New Jersey native is being held on $25,000 bond.
