A Leesburg woman was arrested for driving under the influence after police found her stuck on the side of the road drunk from two Bailey’s Irish Cream drinks.

Police responded to the area of 1226 Overlook Road in reference to a gray Honda SUV off the roadway on Lakeshore Drive at 10:51 p.m. Wednesday, according to an arrest report from the Eustis Police Department.

Two officers arrived on scene and spoke to the driver of the vehicle, 36-year-old Leah Marie Griffin. She was still in the driver’s seat when the first officer arrived. He could smell the odor of alcoholic beverages coming from her breath as he spoke to her. The second officer arrived to see Griffin speaking with the first officer in front of his patrol car, the report said.

Griffin then explained to the officers that she had too much to drink at her father’s house and did not realize this until she was driving home. She decided to pull over and call her husband to pick her up, getting her vehicle stuck in the process, the report said.

During this conversation, the officers again noticed the odor of alcohol on Griffin’s breath. She was sweating and had bloodshot watery eyes, all the while having a hard time maintaining her balance, the report said.

Griffin was asked if she would perform field sobriety exercises, to which she agreed, the report said. However, the roadway on scene was sloped. Griffin was transported to the Lake County Jail so she could do the exercises on a level surface. As one of the officers walked with her to his patrol car, Griffin was slow moving and grabbed his shoulder several times to maintain her balance.

On the way to the jail, Griffin stated she was drinking Bailey’s Irish Cream at her father’s house and that she only had two drinks, the report said.

Upon arrival, the exercises were performed. Due to Griffin’s poor performance during the exercises, the officers concluded that she was driving under the influence of alcohol. She was then placed under arrest, the report said.

Griffin agreed to provide breath samples, during which she vomited in a trash can, the report said. The tests resulted .169g/210L, .191g/210L and .173g/210L.

The Michigan native was subsequently charged with DUI and turned over to Lake County Jail for processing. She was released after posting $1,000 bond.
