Driver and passenger killed when car leaves roadway and hits trees in Lake County

A driver and his passenger were killed when the car in which they were traveling left the roadway and collided with two trees early Sunday morning in Lake County.

A 23-year-old man from Deland was driving the car at about 1:30 a.m. on County Road 42 at Crows Bluff Road west of Deland when he traveled over the center line and the car left the roadway, crashing into a tree, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol. After the intimal impact, the car continued in a northerly direction and struck a second tree.

The driver and his passenger, a 21-year-old man from DeLeon Springs, were both pronounced dead at the scene. Neither had been wearing seatbelts, the report noted.
