A Leesburg man was arrested with THC wax after police pulled him over at a 7-Eleven for having dim plate lighting.

An officer spotted a white 1997 GMC Sierra with a registration plate not plainly visible in the area of State Road 19 and County Road 44 at around 1:35 a.m. Wednesday, according to an arrest report from the Eustis Police Department.

The officer initiated a traffic stop with the vehicle coming to a halt at the 7-Eleven at 2002 N. SR 19. He then approached the driver, 51-year-old Jason Brian Lemonovich, from the passenger side, the report said.

While explaining the reason for the stop, the officer noticed a thin, silver vape pen resting in the elevated cup holder below the radio. Lemonovich handed it to the officer when asked, and he told the officer it belonged to him. He also stated he had a medical marijuana card, but this was later found not to be true, the report said.

Shortly after, another officer arrived to assist with the stop. The officer asked Lemonovich to get out of the vehicle and if he had anything else inside the car, to which he replied, “I got a pipe in there.” He then clarified that it was used for smoking marijuana, the report said.

The officer searched the vehicle and found a glass pipe and a circular glass container with a dark waxy substance in the center console. This tested positive for high levels of THC, according to the report.

Additionally, a background check revealed Lemonovich had prior convictions for the sale of synthetic cannabinoid in March 1999 and possession of marijuana in March 2002, the report said.

Lemonovich was subsequently arrested on charges of possession of THC wax and drug paraphernalia. He was transported to the Lake County Jail and released after posting $3,000 bond.
