A Fruitland Park woman was arrested after allegedly shooting her neighbor during an argument when he reportedly threatened to harm her.

Police responded around 12:36 p.m. Monday to a report of a shooting at the Fruitland Acres apartments, 303 Urick St. Upon arrival, officers met with 62-year-old Cynthia Frazier Wilson and the male victim, according to an arrest report from the Fruitland Park Police Department.

The victim, who had a blood stain on the stomach area of his white shirt, was repeatedly yelling, “she shot me” and “I didn’t do anything.” He lifted his shirt to uncover the entry wound from the bullet, later identified to be a .25-caliber round, in his stomach, the report said.

Lake Emergency Fire Rescue 56 and Lake County Fire Engine 56 arrived on scene and took the victim to Covenant Life Church of God, 706 Urick St., where he was subsequently airlifted to Ocala Regional Medical Center for treatment, according to the report.

Wilson told officers that she came out of her residence that morning to see the victim sitting on his porch. She said he called her several vulgar names as a way of greeting, and she told him not speak to her due to a verbal altercation that occurred the night before, the report said.

Wilson then went back inside her residence for about 20 minutes, and during that time she armed herself with a chrome .25-caliber semiautomatic pistol with a pearl grip. When Wilson came out of her residence to do laundry, the victim was cursing and banging on the door to his residence. Wilson said the victim ran towards her yelling and screaming that he knew she had guns, but he had one that was bigger. He told Wilson he was going to “blow your brains out,” all the while shouting profanities, according to the report.

Wilson repeatedly told the victim to leave her alone and that he was scaring her, but the victim continued to yell at her as she attempted to walk backwards away from him. She noted at the time that he was unarmed and kept his hands behind him during the entire verbal altercation, the report said.

As Wilson began to walk away, the victim bumped her with his shoulder. In response, Wilson turned around and reached for her firearm that was in a holster at her hip. The victim continued to walk towards her and put his forehead to hers, according to the report.

Wilson said she backed away from the victim again, drew her firearm and pointed it at him. He told her to shoot him as he took another step towards her. Wilson told the officers that he then “moved fast forwards” at her, causing her to fire her gun at the victim, the report said.

Officers placed Wilson in handcuffs to be taken to the Lake County Jail. While on the way, she began to complain of back pain due to her feeling cramped in the rear seat of the patrol car, according to the report.

Upon arrival at the jail, she turned herself to exit the car but said her legs were going numb and that her back hurt. The officer requested EMS respond to the jail. Wilson made one more attempt to stand, with no success. She was lowered to the ground and placed in a comfortable position until EMS arrived, the report said.

Wilson was then taken by ambulance to Waterman Hospital for medical evaluation. While at the hospital, she advised that she “never should have pulled the trigger,” according to the report.

After she was cleared by medical staff, Wilson was taken back to the Lake County Jail. She was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon before being released for posting $5,000 bond.
