Kay Pederson, 86, of Altoona, Florida, passed away Tuesday, May 16, 2023.

Born in Mansfield, Ohio, she lived in Texas for most of her early life and she moved to Altoona in 1974 from Homestead, Florida. Kay was a teacher for her early career until she became a mother to her four children. She was a very active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Umatilla, where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School and volunteered with many of their activities. She was involved with the Women’s Club, Garden Club and the local 4-H club for many years. Kay was always a passionate animal lover. Raising many horses and a special donkey named Thumper. While in Texas, she sang in the Billy Graham Choir.

Kay is survived by her husband, Pete Pederson of Altoona, FL; 2 sons, Michael Pederson of Leesburg, FL and Chris (Bonnie Lee) Pederson of Altoona, FL; 2 daughters, Karen (Gerry) Stephens of Umatilla, FL and Tanya (John) Edwards of Alpharetta, GA. 9 grandchildren, Stephen, Lauren, Rachel, Miranda, Collin, Joshua, Jacob, Taylor and Jordan; 5 great-grandchildren, Colson, Skylar, Crew, Tripp and Charlee; and numerous extended family and friends.

Memorial services will be held at First Presbyterian Church, Umatilla on Saturday, May 20, 2023 at 2:00 PM. Inurnment will be at Hinson Cemetery, Altoona. Memorial donations may be made to the Humane Society of Lake County (www.humanelake.com).
