Police called after irate man uses toaster to attack fellow resident at group home

A Leesburg man was arrested Sunday night after allegedly using a toaster to attack a fellow resident at a group home.

Leesburg police officers were dispatched to a mental behavior group home in Leesburg when a 911 call was received a little past 9:30 p.m. When the officers made contact with 20-year-old Frederick Lee Harris he was in an irate state of behavior, according to the arrest report. Harris told the officers that he had been in a verbal argument when the other man who insulted his mother and threw a chair at him. He said he wanted to “toast” him so he grabbed a toaster out of the kitchen and swung it by the cord, hitting the other man.

An employee of the group home gave the officer a written statement where she said Harris had been the aggressor and that the victim had thrown the chair in self defense. The two men had exchanged punches before being separated, the report said.

Harris was placed under arrest for aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. After booking at the Leesburg Police Station he was transported to the Lake County Jail where bond was set at $10,000.
