Leesburg city commissioners have approved two plats for the expansion of The Villages into Leesburg.
The property for both Plat 75 and Plat 77 is generally located east of County Road 470. Plat 75 will include of 71 single-family residential lots while Plat 77 will have 39 single-family homes.
Both plats were reviewed by the city staff and complied with all zoning, previously approved site plans and construction plans.
Approval of the plats completes the project review by the city and will enable The Villages to apply for building permits, construct and sell homes within this portion of The Villages development in Leesburg.
West Lake is located entirely within Lake County and Leesburg. The Villages of West Lake is adjacent to The Villages of Southern Oaks, and will be situated on both the north and south sides of the Florida Turnpike and both sides of County Road 470 to County Road 48. Plans also call for the southward continuation of Meggison Road from State Road 44 to County Road 470.
The 110 homes approved by the commissioners brings the total approved to 1,846 homes in Leesburg. City officials estimated in 2018 that the city will net some $8.7 million from the land sale. Construction is expected to cost between $900 million to $1.2 billion. Once completed, the city should annually collect $4.5 million in property taxes.
