A Mascotte woman was arrested for drunk driving after police found her asleep behind the wheel.
An officer responded to a request for help with a possible drunk driver near Taurus Court and Gemini Drive at around 2:25 a.m. Monday, according to an arrest report from the Mascotte Police Department.
The officers met on scene and approached the driver, 29-year-old Richa Tiloma Singh. The vehicle was stationary about five feet off the curb facing south. Singh was passed out behind the wheel of the vehicle, prompting one of the officers to knock on the driver’s side window to wake her up, the report said.
As an officer spoke to Singh, he could smell alcohol on her breath. She advised that she had gone to the Tiki Bar and Gators Dockside for several alcoholic drinks. This led to the officers asking Singh to perform field sobriety tests, to which she agreed, the report said.
Singh had trouble maintaining her balance just getting out and walking to the rear of her vehicle, the report said. Her problems continued during the exercises, where she swayed side to side and staggered over her steps. She was also unable to track a stimulus with her eyes.
Due to her poor performance during the exercises, the officer concluded that Singh was under the influence of alcohol. She later refused to submit to breath tests multiple times, the report said.
The Guyana native was arrested and charged with DUI. She was transported to the Lake County Jail and released after posting $2,000 bail.
