72-year-old motorcyclist dies after head-on collision in Lake County

A 72-year-old motorcyclist died and another driver was airlifted from the scene of a head-on collision in Lake County.

The Daytona Beach man had been riding a 2007 Harley-Davidson motorcycle on County Road 42 west of West Fourth Street at 1:50 p.m. Thursday when he failed to maintain his lane and partially entered the westbound lane of traffic and collided with a 2017 Hyundai Veloster driven by a 23-year-old Paisley man, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

Due to the impact the Veloster ran off the road and struck a few trees. The driver was seriously injured and airlifted from the scene. He was taken to Central Florida Regional Hospital where he was in stable condition.

A roadblock was set up on both lanes of County Road 42. The crash remains under investigation.
