A Tavares man was arrested during a veterans’ BBQ at Inn on the Green after threatening hotel staff.

An officer was on routine patrol when 27-year-old Matthew Bryson Mosley-Uccello approached his vehicle, according to an arrest report from the Tavares Police Department.

Mosley-Uccello opened the driver’s door of the patrol car to speak with the officer, the report said. He was immediately advised to stop, step away and close the door. The officer could smell the strong odor of alcohol from two feet away as Mosley-Uccello began to walk away.

Moments later, the officer heard Mosley-Uccello  yelling at hotel staff, the report said. The officer exited his patrol vehicle as Mosley-Uccello  approached hotel staff with his fists clenched, yelling and threatening to fight. The officer was able to physically remove him and get him to walk away from the area.

However, Mosley-Uccello returned, again attempting to fight people by getting in their faces. He screamed obscenities with his fists clenched as the officer pushed and pulled him away. The officer requested staff leave the area in hopes of calming Mosley-Uccello down and deescalating his irate behavior, the report said.

The officer made repeated verbal commands to calm down and stop as he attempted to contain Mosley-Uccello, the report said. Mosley-Uccello  continued to pull away and push through the officer, using his chest to push him back. The officer sustained a minor injury to his left eye from his sunglasses during this altercation.

As a bystander watched the situation, Mosley-Uccello began to verbally attack and threaten to batter the individual. This continued until the officer was able to remove him and place Mosley-Uccello into an interior office room inside the lobby, the report said.

Mosley-Uccello pulled away from the officer and punched the front counter, the report said. He also started to head butt the doors and walls around the room. Hotel staff assisted the officer in containing Mosley-Uccello as he screamed and punched desks, walls and cabinets.

Eventually, the officer was able to handcuff Mosley-Uccello and set him down in a chair. Mosley-Uccello continued to push and pull away from the officer as he was held down in the chair. He would briefly calm down when told he was hurting the officer with his resistance, but would quickly become irate again, the report said.

Another officer was called for assistance in getting Mosley-Uccello to the patrol vehicle. Mosley-Uccello kicked the doors and screamed at anyone in the area, threatening to kill the assisting officer when he got released from jail, the report said.

Mosley-Uccello requested EMS due to a broken hand from repeatedly punching things, the report said. EMS arrived on scene and transported to AdventHealth Waterman for the injury. After being medically cleared, Mosley-Uccello was transported to the Lake County Jail.

He was trespassed from Inn on the Green with staff removing his belongings. He was also charged with disorderly intoxication and resisting arrest with violence. Bond was set at $500.

Prior to this incident, the arresting officer had known Mosley for approximately 10 years, the report said. Mosley had a history of opiate addiction and overdoses. With the help of the Inn on the Green, his family and the officer, Mosley was placed in a room at the hotel around two weeks ago per his request to get sober.

Mosely was sober for around 15 days from all drugs before the BBQ. He was not present at the hotel until minutes before the officer arrived for the event. It was unknown if his unusual behavior was a side effect of mixing alcohol with newly prescribed psych medication or if he used drugs that day, the report said.

During his outburst, he made multiple obscene comments, the report said. These included thinking someone was coming to hurt the officer, homicidal comments, staff was coming after him and threatening to kill another inmate at the Lake County Jail. The staff at the jail was informed of these threats.
