A Leesburg teen has been arrested for vaping with THC oil at Tavares High School
A Lake County sheriff’s deputy was on duty around 7:10 p.m. at Tavares High School when he spotted 19-year-old Travon Terrall Duncan in possession of a vaping device, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
The deputy seized the device and escorted Duncan to the School Resource Deputy office. The deputy also detected the odor of marijuana, and Duncan admitted the device contained THC oil, the report said.
Duncan was informed he would be receiving a citation for the device, the report said. He was allowed to call his mother in order for him to leave the campus once the citation was completed. However, Duncan jumped from his chair, grabbed the device off the desk and fled the school grounds while the deputy contacted the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
The deputy called Duncan’s mother and asked her to return Duncan to the school with the vaping device, to which she agreed. While awaiting Duncan’s return, his belongings were retrieved and taken to the SRD office to be searched. The pair arrived about 10 minutes later.
The report stated Duncan was again taken to the SRD office, at which time a second vaping device and a small folding knife was found. He was taken into custody and exercised his right to remain silent.
Duncan was charged with possession of THC oil, tampering with evidence and resisting without violence. He was transported to the Lake County Detention Center and released after posting $5,000 bond.
