A new development that would include more than 300 new homes is one step closer to reality in Leesburg.

Leesburg city commissioners voted 4-0 last week to refer the Blue Cedar development to the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity for comments and review. The 110-acre parcel is presently zoned as agriculture property and will be rezoned as a Planned Unit Development.

The Blue Cedar developement is just south of the Florida Turnpike and east of U.S. Hwy.27
The Blue Cedar development will be located south of the Florida Turnpike and east of U.S. Hwy. 27.

The developer plans to build 188 single-family homes and 118 townhouses on the property which would also have commercial development.

The property is near the Orlando Health complex east of U.S. Hwy. 27 and south of the Florida Turnpike. The proposed development will be up for a second reading and possible final approval in March.
