Corrections Officer scholarships available at Lake Technical College

Lake Technical College is offering full scholarships for Lake County residents who want to be corrections officers.

There is currently a critical shortage of corrections officers and this scholarship fully covers program tuition, lab fees, books, uniforms and state exam fees. The school will supply the training and assist you with finding and securing employment. In fact, you may be eligible to be hired as a civilian to earn income while completing the training program.

“This is an opportunity for free education. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain,” said Capt. Michael Bond, Lake Tech’s Criminal Justice Academy Training Director.  “A great paying career with benefits and retirement. Not to mention it will open the pathway to many different career opportunities in criminal justice.”

Being a correctional officer is a viable beginning into law enforcement as it helps you qualify for a crossover program allowing you to be dual certified in both corrections and law.

Classes are in session for 10 weeks from April 10 – June 21 and meet 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday at the Institute of Public Safety in Tavares.  To get started, complete the online application at www.laketech.org.  The entire application process must be completed and submitted by Feb. 23.

To learn more about the enrollment process, or to ask about the scholarship opportunity, connect with a Career Advisor at Lake Technical College’s Institute of Public Safety by calling 352-742-6463 or stop by the Institute of Public Safety Campus, located at 1565 Lane Park Cutoff Road in Tavares. You may also chat with a live Career Advisor during regular business hours at www.laketech.org.
