A woman already in jail for drug possession had more charges added the next day when the car she had been driving was reported as stolen.

Lisa Marie Short, 38 of Umatilla, was arrested in Eustis on Sunday and charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession drug paraphernalia, and knowingly driving with a suspended or revoked license. She was in the Lake County Jail on Monday when Umatilla police responded to a report of a stolen vehicle.

The victim told an Umatilla officer that his sister’s friend, who he identified as Short, came to his home for dinner on Saturday night and brought a friend with her. He said he started feeling bad after dinner and went to bed. The victim said by the time he was feeling well enough to get up, it was Monday. He thinks he might have been drugged but declined medical treatment, according to the police report.

The victim said his silver 1997 Toyota Corolla, valued at $4,000, was missing along with two cell phones, a $50 bill, and a ring of keys. A phone tracking app showed the phone was at the Lake County Jail.  Lake County Sheriff’s Office dispatch discovered that Short had been arrested the previous day while driving the stolen vehicle. The car was at an impound lot and the Umatilla officer found one of the phones at the jail with a damaged front but still operational, the report said.

None of the other stolen items were among Short’s property. She faces additional charges of grand theft of a vehicle and grand theft of $100 or more from a vehicle, according to the report. Short is being held on $21,000 bond and is due to appear in Lake County Court on Feb. 13.
