A grand jury has indicted a suspect in the murder of an elderly couple at an assisted living facility in Mount Dora.
Darryl Getman, 83, and Sharon Getman, 80 were murdered at their home in the facility on New Year’s Eve. A butcher-style knife was found in Darryl Getman’s abdomen. Law enforcement arrived on the scene and found that the couple’s green Kia Soul was missing.
A team of investigators from the Mount Dora Police Department, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the Lake County Sheriff’s Office worked together to identify 50-year-old Vickie Lynn Williams as the suspect in this case. Analysts from FDLE’s Orlando crime lab were instrumental in the investigation, providing critical evidence linking Williams to the crime scene, according to State Attorney William Gladson.
Williams was arrested earlier this month at an Amtrak station in Savannah, Ga. The couple’s green Kia Soul was found parked in the parking lot at the train station.
In addition to two counts of murder, Williams is facing a charge of grand theft.
Williams is being held without bond at the Lake County Jail.
The Getmans will be remembered in a service Monday, March 13, at Alan J. Harden Funeral Home in Mount Dora. Calling hours will begin at 10 a.m. with a service to follow.
