Leesburg seeking volunteers to fill board vacancies

Applications are currently being accepted for openings on several City of Leesburg boards. Residents who are interested in serving on the Greater Leesburg Community Redevelopment Agency, Police Pension Board, Planning Commission or Historic Preservation Board should submit an application to the City Clerk’s Office by Jan. 25.

These groups generally meet several times each year and length of terms, qualifications and responsibilities vary by board. The City Commission will review all applications and make its selections at a future meeting.

GREATER LEESBURG COMMUNITY REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY

One member of a seven-member Commission to serve a remaining four-year term expiring December 31, 2023.  Responsibilities:  Plan revitalization projects for the Greater Leesburg CRA area and approve the budget for the agency.  Meetings as called and held in the Commission Chambers, City Hall.  Applicants must reside in, or engage in business within the boundaries of the agency.

POLICE PENSION PLAN BOARD

One member of a five-member board for a two-year term to expire December 31, 2024.  Responsibilities: Perform all duties as are required to prudently administer the plan.

PLANNING COMMISSION

One member of a seven-member Commission to serve a remaining three-year term expiring September 30, 2023. Responsibilities: Long range planning activities such as the Comprehensive Plan, current planning reviews of applications for rezoning, conditional uses, comprehensive plan amendments, etc. The Planning Commission also functions as the Board of Appeals and hears variance requests and appeals of administrative decisions.  Meets Third Thursday of the month in the Commission Chambers, City Hall, at 4:30 p.m.

HISTORIC PRESERVATION BOARD

One member to serve as part of an eight-member board to serve a remaining three-year term expiring September 30, 2023 and Two alternate members.  Responsibilities: To work with the Planning Division in applying design standards to properties requesting alterations, construction, demolition, relocation or removal in the historic district. To recognize historic properties in the District where significant physical improvements have been made. To develop programs to promote historic preservation in the City of Leesburg.  Meets Fourth Wednesday of the month in the Commission Chambers, City Hall, at 4 p.m.
