Well-known Leesburg personality honored for his community service

Bob Peters is the 2022 recipient of the Community Service Award presented by the Mary Ellen Robertson Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

The award was presented on Nov. 19 in the Community Room of the Marianne Beck Memorial Library, Howey-In-the-Hills.

Bob Peters is a well-known personality throughout Leesburg and surrounding communities. He has compiled a catalog of 500 interviews of individuals and organizations for his YouTube Central Florida Salute. Peters developed the Central Florida Salutes YouTube Channel with videos through which he interviews veterans and their families drawing from them their history and stories of their military and service career.

Peters asserts that he wants younger generations to understand the country’s military and war past, and he enjoys educating civilians whenever he can.

“I am very into military history,” Peters said. “And I want to share the history.”

The purpose of Community Service Award is to recognize unpaid voluntary community service of individuals and organizations. Peters qualifies for the award based on his contribution to the community in an outstanding manner through voluntary heroic, civic, benevolent service.
