Driver apprehended with methamphetamine in Leesburg

A Jacksonville man was arrested with methamphetamine Sunday night in Leesburg.

Officers observed a Toyota Tundra truck driving northbound on Citrus Boulevard without taillights, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department The officers stopped the Tundra near the intersection of Citrus Boulevard and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard where they made contact with the driver, 36-year-old Amber Rae Leake.

A records check showed Leake has a suspended license. While one officer was preparing the driving while suspended citation, the other officer spotted  a pipe sticking out of a bag in the backseat. When asked about the bag, Leake grabbed it and told the officer that it did not belong to him.

Leake allowed the officer to examine the bag. The officer found that there was residue on the pipe which looked like methamphetamine. Leake opened his wallet and gave the officer a baggie containing a white crystalline substance which field tested as methamphetamine, according to the arrest report.

Leake was placed under arrest on charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. After booking at the police station he was transported to the Lake County Jail where bond was set at $3,000.
