Leesburg trio nabbed with drugs after officer spots vehicle at local motel

A Leesburg trio found themselves behind bars after they were caught with drugs in their vehicle at a local motel.

A Groveland officer was doing a property check at the Rodeway Inn on U.S. Hwy. 27 when he noticed a silver Nissan car containing two men and two women being driven in a suspicious manner. When the car backed into a parking spot and no one exited the car, the officer stopped to do a welfare check, according to the arrest report from the Groveland Police Department.

When the officer made contact with the driver, the officer detected a heavy odor of marijuana coming from the interior of the vehicle. The man in the front passenger seat gave the officer a fake name. The officer later learned his identity was that of 34-year-old Fayne Coty Williams. The rear passenger side seat occupant was identified as 27-year-old Devonte Williams. The woman occupying the seat behind the driver was identified as 30-year-old Jemiah Shauntae Mitchem.

A search of the vehicle and the passengers resulted in several felony charges. Faye Williams was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of both cocaine and marijuana with intent to sell as well as possession of drug paraphernalia. His bond was set at the Lake County Jail at $58,000.

Devonte Williams was charged with possession of marijuana and methamphetamine. When he was taken to the Lake County Jail correctional officers discovered he had attempted to take drugs into the jail. He also has a violation of probation charge pending and was being held with no bond.

Jemiah Mitchem was found to have drugs stuck in her bra. She was charged with possession of cocaine and methamphetamine. Her bond was set at $4,000.

The driver of the Nissan was not charged.
