A jealous ex-husband was arrested after allegedly threatening his ex-wife’s man friend with a foot-long butcher knife.
Law enforcement responded Wednesday afternoon to the 200 block of Devault Street in Umatilla after receiving a call form a woman who said that her ex-husband, 32-year-old Quinton Gillard was parked in her front yard after dropping their children at her residence, according to an arrest report from the Umatilla Police Department.
She told the police she took the children into the house and when she came back outside she saw Gillard get out of his car with a large butcher knife. Gillard walked toward her man friend who was standing in her garage. She said Gillard hollered that he was going to kill him, “Just like his mother was dead.”
When questioned by the officers, Gillard denied threatening the man with a knife, but claimed he had grabbed a stick to defend himself because the man was getting a gun out of his car. Gillard claimed that the man fired a gun at him from close range. Gillard later admitted he had a knife in his car but that he never showed it to the victim nor threatened him.
A search of Gillard’s car produced a foot-long butcher knife. Gillard was placed under arrest on a charge of aggravated assault with a knife. He was booked at the Lake County Jail and released after posting $5,000 bond.
