A 24-year-old Leesburg woman was arrested on drug charges after the car she was riding in was pulled over in The Villages.

Ty-Jayzha Sweeting, of 2200 Mispah Ave., was charged with possession of a controlled substance without a prescription and possession of drug paraphernalia. Sweeting was a back-seat passenger in a silver Nissan that a Sumter County sheriff’s deputy noticed had a tag number that was not registered to a vehicle and had been relinquished to the state.

The deputy conducted the traffic stop Monday morning in the parking lot of the Walmart at Buffalo Ridge Plaza in The Villages. The deputy immediately noticed the smell of burnt marijuana coming from the vehicle, according to the FHP report.

The vehicle was searched and the trooper found a partially smoked brown cigarette on the passenger-side rear seat where Sweeting had been sitting. The cigarette later tested positive for marijuana. In the trunk of the vehicle was a white bag that contained a glass container of gold wax that tested positive for THC, the active ingredient in marijuana, the report said.

Sweeting spontaneously told the trooper that the bag was hers and there was a marijuana cartridge inside it, according to the report.

Sweeting was placed under arrest and taken to the Sumter County Jail.
