13-year-old released to foster parent after crashing stolen car

A 13-year-old was released to his foster parent after crashing a stolen car.

The boy crashed the stolen car early Tuesday afternoon near the intersection of U.S. Hwy. 441 and State Road 46 in Mount Dora. He bolted in an eastward direction from the scene of the crash.

He went to the Elevate Way apartments where he began breaking into cars.

Lake County sheriff’s deputies found the 13-year-old and turned him over to Mount Dora police officers. The youth admitted to stealing the car that he crashed. He also admitted to six other car burglaries.

The Vermont native has been charged with grand theft auto, leaving the scene of a crash with injuries, operating a motor vehicle without a license and burglary to an unoccupied conveyance. He was released to his foster parent.
