Rev. George Van Hassel

Rev. George William Van Hassel, 81, of Tavares, passed away Monday, August 29, 2022.

Born in Passaic, New Jersey, to the late William G. and Johanna Van Hassel, he moved to Tavares in 1999 from Cusseta, Alabama. He was a Minister with the Church of God of Anderson, IN and served locally at Community Chapel Church of God, Mount Dora and First Church of God, Eustis. George was the Chairman for the Agape Food Ministry in Eustis and was a former member of the Mount Dora Kiwanis Club. He served in the US Air Force during Vietnam.

George is survived by his wife of 44 years, Johnnie G. Van Hassel, Tavares, FL; brother, Ray (June) Van Hassel, Almond, NC; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at First Church of God, Eustis on Saturday, September 10, 2022 at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow at a later date in Guthrie Cemetery in Alabama. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, Bibles be sent out through Gideons International, P.O. Box 683, Eustis, FL 32727-0683.
