A Leesburg man was arrested Sunday morning after allegedly hiding drugs in the store room of the Family Discount Discount Mart.

A Leesburg police officer observed a car with deeply tinted windows pull into the store’s parking lot 2201 Griffin Road. The officer saw 41-year-old Herbert Lee Harris Jr. get out of the driver’s side door of the car and enter the store.

While an officer was checking the vehicle’s tinted widows, another officer went into the store. When he asked Harris about the car, Harris said he had walked to the store and was not the driver. Harris then stepped into the storage room at the rear of the store. The officer could hear some items being moved in the room. When Harris exited the storage room the officer detained him. Harris resisted being handcuffed.

A search of the storage unit turned up 49 MDMA pills, as well as marijuana. The store clerk said that he had been in the storeroom 30 minutes before Harris had entered and that he had not seen any drugs. He also told the officers that Harris had been the only person in the room after the clerk according to the arrest report.

Harris was charged with trafficking MDA, possession of more than 20 grams of marijuana, resisting arrest and driving while license suspended. He was transported to the Lake County Jail where bond was set at $28,000.
