Two Leesburg residents riding in the back seat of a car stopped in Astatula were arrested when drugs were found within their reach.
Daniel Spraggins, 45, and 41-year-old Amanda Fletcher both live at 25704 Bell Alliance in Leesburg. Spraggins was charged with two counts of possession of methamphetamine and one count of possession of paraphernalia, while Flecher was charged with a single count of possession of methamphetamine.
Spraggins and Fletcher were back-seat passengers in a white Hyundai pulled over around 3 a.m. Saturday when an Astatula police officer observed a blue driver’s side headlight. The driver and all three passengers gave permission for the vehicle to be searched, according to the police report.
In the back pocket of the driver’s seat, within reach of Spraggins, were two needles. One of the needles contained about 40 units of a brown liquid that tested positive for methamphetamine. The second needle had trace amounts of meth, the report said.
Under the armrest in the back seat, inside an empty pack of Newport cigarettes, was a 3- to 4-inch glass pipe with a white residue that also tested positive for methamphetamine. The officer also found a small bag of a crystal-like substance that tested positive for meth, according to the report.
Spraggins told the officer he is diabetic and wasn’t feeling well. He was taken by Lake EMS to AdventHealth Waterman in Tavares for evaluation before being taken to the Lake County Jail, the report said.
The officer also found a purse in the back seat where Fletcher had been sitting. Inside the purse was an open package of needles including three that contained a substance that tested positive for meth. Fletcher was also placed under arrest, according to the report.
Bond was set at $5,000 for Spraggins and $2,000 for Fletcher. Neither had bonded out as of Tuesday morning. Both will appear in Lake County Court on Sept. 19.
