A Leesburg woman was arrested after methamphetamine was discovered in her bra during a traffic stop.
A Eustis police officer was on patrol early Friday morning when he observed a car with a defective rear license plate light. The officer stopped the car near the intersection of County Road 44 and Sparrow Lane. As he approached the car, the officer could hear some rustling movement within the vehicle, according to the arrest report.
The officer saw a male in the driver’s seat, a man in the backseat and 28-year-old Danielle Markgraf in the front passenger seat. Markgraf seemed nervous and the officer noted her hands were trembling as she lit a cigarette. The officer asked the man in the driver’s seat if there was anything in the car which would be illegal. He asked for permission to search the vehicle. The man in the backseat said he was the owner and would not consent to a search.
While one officer worked on the paperwork for the defective tag light, a K-9 officer’s dog performed an open air sniff test which led to a search of the car. The officer found a baggie in Markgraf’s bag which contained meth and she admitted to having some meth in her bra.
Both men told the officer that Markgraf had been driving when the car was stopped and had exchanged seats with the other man as the officer approached the car. A records check showed eight suspensions of her license and a 60-month revocation as she is a habitual traffic offender.
A criminal history check revealed several previous drug arrests and that Markgraf was out on bond for a drug trafficking charge from earlier this year. During that arrest methamphetamine was found in her panties and under her breasts.
Markgraf was taken to the Lake County Jail where bond was set at $4,000 which she posted.
