Man sentenced to 40 years in prison for killing neighbor at Leesburg RV park

Scott Curtiss Rudolph

A 63-year-old man has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for murdering his neighbor in 2020 at the HolidayRV Village in Leesburg.

Scott C. Rudolph was sentenced Thursday by Judge Heidi Davis after hearing a statement from the victim’s daughter. Rudolph must serve a mandatory 25 years before he would be able to apply for parole. He was given credit for 671 days in the Lake County Jail.

Rudolph was arrested when Lake County sheriff’s deputies responded to a 911 call regarding a shooting at Holiday RV Village on County Road 33 in Leesburg, just after 9 p.m. Oct. 23, 2020.

Upon arrival at the home, deputies found 61-year-old Jerry Michael Stewart deceased in the enclosed front porch area of the mobile home from an apparent gunshot.

As the investigation got under way, patrol deputies began to canvass the neighborhood and went next door to Lot 21, where Rudolph was living. Deputies noticed Rudolph sitting in his enclosed front porch area with a handgun near his feet and another firearm close by. Rudolph appeared to be intoxicated and eventually confessed to killing Stewart.

Stewart’s wife informed deputies that the two men had an argument during the last week and that Stewart went over and apologized to Rudolph a few days ago. It is unclear what the argument was about.

Stewart and his wife had just moved into the RV park three weeks before the murder.
