A Leesburg man was arrested Wednesday night for possession of controlled substance and marijuana as well as resisting arrest after trying to outrun the Leesburg police.
Ten days earlier, 40-year-old Tony Goldwire was arrested for running from the police when he was jailed on a drug charge and a weapons violation. He posted bond on those charges five days before his second arrest.
Police officers saw Goldwire exchange a white powdery substance with another person in the parking lot of Tyler’s Family Mart on Griffin Road in Leesburg, according to the arrest report. When an officer approached Goldwire, he started to run. He ran through several yards along Tuskegee Street while jumping over fences. The chase ended when the pursuing officers were able to taser Goldwire, according to the arrest report.
When Goldwire was searched, an officer found a marijuana cigar and 10.3 grams of cocaine. Lorenzo complained of having difficulty breathing and was taken to UF Health-Leesburg Hospital. After he was cleared at the hospital he was taken to the Lake County Jail.
