A Leesburg teen was arrested after crashing his car and fighting with officers at the scene of the accident.

Officers were dispatched to the crash scene early Saturday morning in the 33300 block of Arbour Point Way in Leesburg. When they arrived on the scene they found 19-year-old Thomas Patrick Dubois sitting in the driver’s seat of a damaged car which had the motor running. Dubois had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath and slurred his speech so badly that officers had difficulty understanding what he was saying, according to the arrest report from Leesburg Police Department.

The officers observed a can of Four Loco on the central console as well as an empty can of the same alcoholic beverage on the floor. When asked to get out of the car, Dubois  was very unsteady and almost fell over. He mumbled to the officers that he was drunk and was under the influence of drugs, according to the arrest report.

As an officer was talking to Dubois he became aggressive and moved toward the officer who backed up until his path was blocked by another vehicle. The officer tried to put handcuffs on the teen and had to struggle with Dubois to restrain him. Dubois, who weighs 250 pounds, started to stomp on the officer’s left foot. As he was being placed into the police car, Dubois became extremely violent and lunged at the officers. He was placed into a three-point restraint so he could no longer kick the widows, officers or harm himself.

Lake EMS was called to the scene and transported him to UF Health-Leesburg Hospital where he was treated and a blood sample was taken. Dubois was unable to provide a breath sample.

He was charged with DUI with property damage, resisting  an officer with violence, and alcohol possession by a person under 21 years of age. Dubois was booked at the Lake County Jail and released after posting $7,000 bond.
