A 53-year-old resident of the Arlington Ridge community in Leesburg is accused of punching a man who asked him to leave his residence for insulting his girlfriend.

George Hamilton Gray, of 4322 Arlington Ridge Blvd., was charged with simple battery (one prior conviction) after the incident, which happened around midnight Sunday. A criminal history check showed Gray was previously convicted of battery in March 2017. He was also arrested in October 2020 on his fourth DUI charge after an argument with his mother.

The victim told a Leesburg police officer he was on the back patio drinking with some friends when he got into an argument with Gray over rude comments Gray made to the victim’s girlfriend. The victim said he asked Gray to leave the house, according to the police report.

The victim said Gray pushed him to the ground and punched him with a closed fist on his left ear and chest. The victim said he did not hit Gray back and he left the house to get away from him. An independent witness said he saw Gray and the victim fighting and Gray strike the victim in the face. The witness said the victim did not strike Gray back, the report said.

Gray was arrested and booked at the Leesburg police station before being taken to the Lake County Jail, where he was still being held Wednesday on $2,000 bond. He’s due to appear in Lake County Court on Sept. 6.
