A Leesburg man was sentenced to 20 years in prison Thursday on two counts of attempted murder in an apparent road rage incident.
Robert Charles Moton, 28, also entered a plea of no contest to the offense of possession of a firearm by a felon and was sentenced to an additional five years in prison. He was given three days credit for time served.
Moton was arrested in the early morning of Sept. 26, 2020 for shooting two men in an apparent road rage incident. The men, who suffered minor injuries, told Lake County sheriff’s deputies who were called to the scene that they were northbound on Radio Road in a pickup truck when a white car cut them off at the intersection of Radio Road and Shademoor Drive. When the truck driver honked his horn at the white car as the truck approached Morningside Drive, the white car moved into the left lane so the men could go past. The white car, in which Moton was a passenger, then passed the truck and Moton fired several rounds at the two men. The pickup truck driver then rammed the white car off the road. The white car drove off and the men in the pickup called 911. The pickup driver was able to get a partial view of the white car’s license plate.
The deputies canvassed the area and found a white four-door Toyota with damage to the front passenger side bumper and a plate that started with ZY. The car was in the driveway of a house only two blocks from the location of the shooting.
