A Leesburg woman was arrested late Sunday night in Eustis for driving under the influence after being in a verbal altercation in Tavares.

Lake County deputies had been called to the location of the argument in Tavares. When the deputies arrived they were told that the women involved in the altercation had left and that they had gone in the direction of Eustis. The deputy called the Eustis Communications Center and advised the dispatcher that the women had been drinking and were heading toward Eustis.

A Eustis officer observed the the woman’s 2014 Chevrolet Tahoe near the intersection of David Walker Drive and Kurt Street. The officer began to follow the Tahoe. The officer saw the Tahoe cross the center line and drive in the middle of the road, according to the officer’s report. When the driver of the Tahoe kept weaving from the fog line and across the centerline the officer initiated a traffic stop.

The officer made contact with the driver, 25 year-old Sigilia Pinkham. The officer noted in his report that she had slurred speech and difficulty maintaining conversation. She agreed to participate in the standardized field sobriety exercises which she had trouble performing. Pinkham was placed under arrest for DUI and was taken to the Eustis Police Department where she refused to provide a breath sample. Her driving history showed that this was her first driving under the influence arrest.

Pinkham was taken to the Lake County Jail where bond was set at $1,000 which she posted.
