Giles R. DeWitt

Giles R. DeWitt, 98, of Leesburg, FL passed away peacefully on June 15, 2022.

He was born January 8, 1924 in Holyoke, MA to William and Beulah Bray DeWitt. Giles spent his early years being raised on a farm in Granby, MA before attending and graduating high school in South Hadley, MA. A proud United States Marine, he served in the USMC 4th Division from 1942-1945 as a Communications Tech and was stationed at Iwo Jima. Upon completion of his military service he attended Tri-State College in Indiana where he graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree. He went to work as an Aeronautical Engineer retiring from Kaman Aircraft in 1977. After retirement Giles consulted for Lockheed Martin, Boeing and the Royal Saudi Airforce, living in Saudi Arabia for 6 years. An avid woodworker and accomplished carpenter, Giles built several homes for his family and additionally enjoyed sailing, traveling and especially camping and cruises.

Survivors include: his wife of 12 years, Dona DeWitt of Leesburg; daughters: Dorothy Malmstedt of Gulfport, FL and Jan Guthrie of Vero Beach, FL; grandchildren: Sharlene Dowling, Christine Vrettos, Gilles Stucker, Jr., Benjamin Stucker; 7 great grandchildren; siblings Phyllis McCoy and Francis DeWitt. He was preceded in death by his first wife Dorothy Atkins DeWitt, second wife Frances DeWitt and brothers William and Walter DeWitt.
