A Leesburg woman was arrested Saturday night on a charge of driving under the influence after drinking in The Villages.

A Fruitland Park officer was on patrol in the area of Miller Street and U.S. Hwy. 27/441 at 2:58 a.m. when he observed a southbound car having difficulty maintaining a lane. As the car passed the intersection where the officer was stationed, he saw the car drift into the middle lane then abruptly turn to the right almost striking the concrete median, according to the arrest report.

The officer followed the car a short distance before initiating a traffic stop. He made contact with the driver, 47-year-old Tymisha Vanetta Davis and asked her for her driver’s license, car registration and insurance papers. He noted in his report that she had slow movements and had difficulty locating documents. She told the officer that she did not know where her insurance paperwork was.

She said that she was coming from Margarita Republic, a bar and restaurant located in The Villages. The officer could smell a distinct odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from her breath. He asked her to exit her car and asked her to perform the standardize field sobriety exercises. She refused. The officer placed her under arrest and then asked her to provide breath samples for analysis, which she also refused. A records check showed that Davis has two prior DUI convictions and a previous refusal to provide the requested breath samples.

Davis was charged with a driving under the influence (two prior convictions), refusal to provide breath samples and failure to sign a criminal citation. She was booked at the Lake County Jail on $7,000 bond.
