A 32-year-old Leesburg woman was charged with DUI after a two-car crash Sunday night near the intersection of U.S. Hwy. 441 and Sleepy Hollow Road.
The Leesburg police officer who responded to the scene observed two vehicles with minor damage. Since there were no injuries and it was raining heavily, both drivers agreed to relocate to the nearby RaceTrac. While on the way to the gas station, one of the vehicles was unable to stay in its lane and collided with a Department of Transportation sign in the median, according to the police report.
The driver of that vehicle was identified as Ashley Porter, of 123 Bayou Circle #301. While investigating the crash, the officer observed Porter’s eyes were glassy, bloodshot, and watery. There was a distinct odor of alcohol coming from her mouth that got stronger when she started to speak. Porter continued to spontaneously say, “let me go,” and, “I can get a ride home,” the report said.
Porter was taken to the Leesburg Police Department, where she provided two breath samples the came back with readings of .203 and .189 – more than twice the legal limit. After booking, she was taken to the Lake County Jail, where she was released Monday morning on $2,000 bond. Porter is due in Lake County Court on June 7.
